The Latin phrase at the bottom right of the page means "vigor is arms to the brave" and is the motto of the "Nisbets of Greenholm" branch of Clan Nisbet, my family's branch. Nesbit is one of about 24 derivations of the Nisbet surname. The first of the name was Aldan Nisbet (1113 - 1180) of Berwickshire, my 20th-great grandfather. The Nisbet clan figured prominently in the extraordinary early history of Scotland, with many of the great battles in the wars for Scottish political and religious independence fought on Nisbet ancestral lands. A page is dedicated to Clan Nisbet and the history of the Nisbets of Greenholm dating to 1085 A.D. Welcome, and enjoy your stay.
